Magic isn’t Religion

A friend of mine recently accused me of being “religious” because of my views. Um, I don’t pray to anything so how does that make me religious? I’m a sorcerer. He also said that I am “using [my] will to get results.” Sure, if it were that simple, he and I would’ve hooked up a long time ago. What I do employs many things but it certainly is NOT mental magic. It takes far more than the “will” to get things rolling. If it were only my will, I’d be plunging in cash from winning the lotto right now.

Practicing sorcery takes YEARS to tap into the power. Every day I am learning something. I run into these new people who think they should be super powerful right now and get pissed when it didn’t happen yesterday. Well boohoo. I’ve been studying since I was a teenager. Sorcery uses everything: herbs, oils, resins, spirits, the kitchen sink… whatever works. We do not PRAY to anything though. This isn’t a church. And while now and then we might use something out of Psalms to achieve our aims, it’s just that—to achieve an end goal.

We look at everything as a result. What can I do to get from point A to point B? It might take months or years to get from A to B and it may never happen. The Universe works out the details.

If you’ve been praying to “The LARD” and nothing is happening to change your life… gosh I wonder why. The Great Unknowable is too damn busy to deal with your silliness. Think about it: 10 billion people in this world and you’re praying about your job or your girlfriend? In some other country there are people starving to death. In another country people are being killed by the second. Is your LARD helping? No. Why not?

I postulate that The Creator being, whoever he/she/it is, has too much to do. Therefore plants, spirits, etc. are here to intercede. Somewhere along the line powerful beings came along and taught humans how to interact with nature and work this magic. This knowledge is passed along throughout generations of different cultures of spiritual workers and I happen to be one of them.

Does praying help? Sometimes. Having faith in something helps. I’ve seen a lot of wild things happen as a result of strong belief and faith. But there is something special about tapping into power that is unexplainable and turning someone’s life around for the better. Does “the will” play a role in this? Moderately. If everything were based on thought alone, I’d be in big trouble or living in a mansion.
